Kirklees College! – Kudos Catering and The John Smith’s Stadium support Kirklees college students with work experience and apprenticeships.

A new term and exciting opportunities are just around the corner.  September will see plans for The John Smith’s Stadium, KUDOS (the Stadium’s catering partner) and Kirklees College launch work experience and apprenticeship schemes for 2020.

The John Smith’s Stadium is a multi-use venue in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Since 1994 it has been the home ground of football club Huddersfield Town and rugby league team, Huddersfield Giants, both of whom moved from Leeds Road.

The Stadium offers a wealth of opportunity to the students wishing to learn more about the hospitality industry. Places historically have been given within the kitchen areas and service teams. They experience match day hospitality for clubs and retail as well as events for non match day.

Ben Butters, Work Placement Employer Liaison Officer for Kirklees College, organised a presentation day on the 17^th May to congratulate those students that participated this year and to launch the scheme for next year. Also present were Gareth Davies, Managing Director of Kirklees Stadium Development Limited and Ian Simpson, General Manager for KUDOS. Certificates were awarded for those that participated in the scheme this year along with a photo opportunity and big well done!

The students are between the ages of 16 and 19 and are studying different subjects incorporating the world of travel and tourism, catering and hospitality.

Gareth Davies said “ The John Smith’s Stadium takes great pride in its catering operation, both for match day and non-match day conferences and events. It is therefore particularly pleasing that we are now working in a structured way with Kirklees College, creating opportunities for students to gain valuable experience. I think this is an important part of what we do and expect the program to continue and grow going forwards “
